The challenge

The Weaving Shed makes handwoven tweed, clothing, homeware, jewellery and art by hand on the Isle of Lewis — much of it limited or one-off, which off-the-shelf shop templates handle badly.
They needed one site that could sell worldwide with live stock (down to "only 1 available"), and also promote the visitor side of the business — the holiday let and weaving retreats.
As a remote Hebridean maker, the shop had to load fast, look premium, and handle multi-country shipping cleanly.

What I built

I hand-coded a bespoke storefront (custom-coded, not Shopify or WooCommerce) shaped around how they actually sell: multiple categories, filtering by collection and price, and live inventory so single-stock items sell out cleanly.
I built a custom image pipeline serving fast, responsive WebP imagery, so the craftsmanship looks the part without slowing the site down.
The tourism side sits alongside the shop — the "Weavers Cottage" holiday let, weaving retreats, gift cards and a loyalty programme — all in one custom build.

The outcome

The Weaving Shed sells its limited, handmade pieces worldwide from one fast, premium storefront with proper stock control.
The shop and the visitor side (holiday let, retreats) live together, so a single site carries the whole business.
It is an award-winning visitor attraction — "Best See and Do Experience in Lewis and Harris 2023" — now with a store that matches the brand.

The story

The Weaving Shed is a family craft business on the Isle of Lewis selling one-of-a-kind handmade pieces.

A template could not handle single-stock items plus a holiday let and retreats, so I hand-built a bespoke shop that does all of it in one place.

It was built direct with me, end to end — fast, premium, and made to fit a genuinely unique maker.
